My Shiba Ate the Time Machine Makes Its International Market Debut at MIPCOM 2026
Papercraft-and-claymation comedy-adventure for six- to nine-year-olds, jointly owned by Berani Nusantara Media and Lemon Sky Studios, heads to Cannes with the support of FINAS to meet global broadcasters, streamers and co-production partners
KUALA LUMPUR / CANNES, 12 October 2026: What happens when a scruffy Shiba Inu chews up a mini laptop that turns out to be a time machine? Buyers at MIPCOM 2026 are about to find out. My Shiba Ate the Time Machine ("My Shiba"), a new original animated series from Malaysia, makes its international market debut at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes from 12 to 15 October.
The series is jointly owned by Berani Nusantara Media Sdn Bhd (Berani) and international game and animation studio Lemon Sky Studios. It travels to Cannes with the support of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), as part of Malaysia's participation at the market.
Made for children aged six to nine, the English-language series comprises 10 five-minute episodes in a distinctive papercraft-and-claymation look. It follows eight-year-old Riku, his best friend Hana and his dog Mochi, whose taste for electronics sends all three tumbling through time. Their accidental adventures take them to some of history's great civilizations, from Ancient Egypt and Tang Dynasty China to the Mali Empire, the Maya and the Inca.
The promise to young viewers, and to the parents and broadcasters who choose for them, is simple. Every episode teaches history, geography and culture through laughs rather than lectures.
"Children everywhere love a dog who causes trouble, and they are endlessly curious about how people lived long ago. My Shiba Ate the Time Machine puts the two together. It was created to invoke curiosity and adventure spirit of kids and MIPCOM is where we find the partners to take it there. This IP puts learning and a great fun story into one, with a look that stands apart on any screen. We are looking for partners who see what we see: a series with room to grow well beyond its first ten episodes," said Kin Wai Lau, Executive Producer of My Shiba.
For FINAS, the debut is part of a continuing effort to strengthen the international presence of Malaysia's film and creative content industry. The agency's presence at MIPCOM is designed to open doors for Malaysian companies and connect their content with the global marketplace.
"Malaysian creators are producing original IP that deserves a place on the world stage. Our role is to make sure the world gets to see it. My Shiba Ate the Time Machine is exactly the kind of homegrown property we want international partners to discover in Cannes," said YBhg. Dato' Dr. Hans Isaac, Chairman of FINAS.
