Behind the Scenes: Remastering StarCraft

August 24, 2018

StarCraft: Remastered is an upgrade of original version that was first released in 1998. The latest version of the game retains the gameplay of the original but upgrades its graphics and sound. The graphics support up to 4K ultra-high-definition resolution, and its original soundtrack and sound effects are re-recorded.

We interviewed the Lead Artist for this project, Leonard to share on what he feels and thinks about the game.

“It was the biggest project I have worked on during my work here in Lemon Sky for almost 7 years and it’s like a dream come true to be the head artist of one of my favorite games.”

With the new upgraded version, the portraits were his favorite game setting. Not to mention the 4K resolution which has larger screen, more dynamic lighting, and larger scale of the map, giving a better experience to players.

It was the biggest project I have worked on during my work here in Lemon Sky for almost 7 years and it’s like a dream come true to be the head artist of one of my favorite games.

“I’m truly grateful to have worked on one of Blizzard’s biggest projects; StarCraft: Remastered starting from the concept art, rigging, modeling until the final stage like final lighting.”

He also mentioned about the experience working with Blizzard…

“Working with Blizzard team is very fun and enjoyable because during our weekly meeting, they will give positive comments and that motivated us more. There’s one time when they even respond to our work with “<3” sign and that makes working with them more fun!”

Throughout the process and working with so many brilliant artist during the process, Leonard also mentions that the most enjoying moment was during artist discussion; where they will debate about all aspect of the design and artwork to convey the best result to Blizzard.

To sum it all, like any other artist who works extra hard to complete a project, for him the biggest achievement that satisfies him was when his name and the team being mentioned in the credit title. He also adds an advice to the people who shared the same passion for this industry which is “Work Hard, Play Harder!”
